FATAL HOLIDAY CRUISE.

Whangare,i, March 13. A holiday trag&dy occurred yofeherday afternoon at/Parua Bay, twelve miles from 'Whahgarei.
Alfred B. Can'n, 28 years of ag'6, of Whangarei, an/J Ernest Chatfev, a. settler at Kamo, went to Pgrua Bay on Thursday, ’festerday, Thomas Ryan, settler, arranged to take them for,. a trip in hi s auxiliary oil laxliich. All started from the shore,in a dinghy}, against 'the wind and tide. When four, boat lengths from, the launch, the dinghy sv/amped, and. Cfiaffey, who is an elderly man, succeeded in swimming to the launch with difficulty. He got aboard and threw ropes to Cann and Ryan, who, being weak and unable to secure them were drowned.
Fishermen, hearing the cries, took off Chaffey and the bodies of the others were recovex'ed.
Cann was a traveller, and had been in the Dominion for two years. His wife and four children are in' Englaixd.
