Odin Remington, trading as McLean and Co., was fined £2OO for attempting to trade with the enemy. The evidence of Remington was to the ■effect that he was an American citizen, doing business in Australia. He had not carefully read the proclamation but when he discovered that his trading was illegal he “dropped it like a hot potato.”

MEAT FOR THE SOLDIERS. i Sydney, March 12. The State Government has definitely taken over on behalf of the Impel ial authorities the whole of the meat, estimated at from 250,000 to 300,000 carcases, stored in the city refrigerators. A consignment of 9000 carcases will be forwarded in a few days. The Imperial Government provides all the necessary freightage.
