General Hertzog, in the Assembly, attributed the rebellion to the Gow ernment’s unconstitutional action. He admitted the Government had done its duty in suppressing disorder. Mr Neser, Chairman of Committees, announced that Beyers on August 14 told the commandants they were going to the border to receive German guns and and would then return to Pretoria to establish a Republic.
