\HE SPLIT IN TrtE CABTNET party:
United Press Association. (Received 9.30 a.m.) Sydney, March 11. The Caucus discussed* the grievance leading up to Mr CarmichaePs resignation.
It is understood Mr Carbmichael stuck to his gUns, Mr Holman maintaining his right to determine the Ministers' order of, precedence. Mr Holman stated it was generally thought Mr Carmichael did wrong in precipitating a crisis. Mr Carmichael rejected all entreaties ,to reconsider his position.
There were seyen candidates for the vacancy, and a ballot was taken between Messrs Grahame, and Burgess, but it is incomplete, two votes being unrecorded. It is believed Mr Grahame leads by one. Further developments are anticipated. It is understood Messrs Holman and Carmichael differed on the question whether Mr Hall was entitled to higher Cabinet rank than Mr Carmichael, the latter contending that in the event of the absence of Mr Holman, Mr Cann (Treasurer) should be entitled, owing to length of service, to be ActingPremier. Mr Holman declined to alter the Ministerial precedence, which had already been fixed. The Caucus adjourned in order to enable/Mr Holman and Mr Carmichael to adjust the difference and allow Mr Carmichael to reenter the Ministry, but the consultation proved unsuccessful.
