The afternoon-shift problem is practically solved. The conference agreed to an additional threepence on the day rate for pick coal, 2£d per ton extra for machine coal, and others ten per cent, increase.

BIG DAIRY FACTORY BURNT.

A fire destroyed the Singletown dairy, which is one of the largest butter factories in New South Wales. The damage is over £SOOO.
WHEAT FOR VICTORIA.
(Received 11.45 a.m.) Melbourne, March 10,
The Premier stated that the wheat cargoes already secured represent 130,000 bushels from the Argentine and America, the landed cost being 8s per bushel.
