SEPTUAGENARIAN’S DEATH
BURNED IN A HAY LOFT. Per Press Association. Auckland, March 9. While threshing was proceeding on W. A. Mackay’s property at Waiuku, the straw outside of the barn caught fire through some unknown cause. The flames were carried into the barn, where men were at work. Duncan Mackay, aged seventy-two years, and. another man were on the scaffold stowing hay when the flames enveloped the hay so quickly that Mackay was unable to escape and was burned to death. The other man escaped with some burns.
