OUTBREAKS AT PALMERSTON.

Per Press Association. Palmerston .North, March 1. A hre on Saturday night gutted the Loyal Orange Dali’ everything inside being destroyed. A u-roomed residence at Kelvin Gorve, occupied by B. Jones, and owned by H. Jones, was destroyed.

BIG BLAZE AT EPSOM.

BLOCK OF SHOPS DESTROYED.

Auckland, March 1

A fire at 6 o’clock this morning destriyed a block of seven shops, in Manukau Hoad, Epsom, occupied by S. and V. Eslick, drapers; E. J. Ivory, tobacconist and fancy goods Miss Cox, fruiterer; W. J. iluncimau, bootmaker; Flee, ironmonger; J. Griflin, fishmonger; F. Jones, fruiterer. Four of the shops.were new and were owned by the Misses Davidson, of Hemnera. Messrs Elsick owned the premises they occupied; Vincent owned the shop occupied by E. J. Ivory; Adams Trustees, the shop occupied by Miss Cox and the properties' occupied by J. F. Quaylo, bootmaker and Coppins Supply-Stores which were partially damaged. The total Joss amounts to about £IO,OOO. The lire started in Ivory’s shop. When two suburban brigades arrived, the whole block was well alight, the flames spreading across the street to the Epsom tramway barn, which caught lire in several places, but was not badly damaged, though the overhead tram lines and telephone lines were burned. The electric current was cut off for some time. , ,

Insurances: Lee £2OO, South British; Ivory, £6OO on stock in Victoria, Ivory’s shop, £6OO in Liverpool and London; four shops owned by Misses Davidson, insured for £ISOO in the State Office; Mrs Elsick, £4OO on property in State Office.
