TRANS-AUSTRALIAN RAILWAY.

The Premier (Mr Fisher) recently tated that the Government's policy includes the construction of the strategical railway as a connection between the Western and Eastern coasts of Australia. Mr Archibald (Home Affairs) has now announced that authority has been given the Engineer-in-Chief to make a preliminary inspection of the country between Port Augusta and Brisbane.

Mr Peak© (the Premier): U 1 • 'policy speech, referred to the danger of socialism. The loss ;of the right to be free to work and live was none the Jess bitter and galling when inflicted by the majority of the people through trade unions than by;an order of the Kaiser. Mr Pearee stated that legislation would be submitted, giving immediate effect to the result of a referendum in favour of the early closing of hotels, prohibition of the sale of liquor to minors, and more effective methods of licensing courts so as to prohibit the sale of inferior l\quor. The Government's intention is not to increase taxation. ;'„..:._.
