N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.
TARANAKI PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE. The monthly meeting at Hawera on Thursday was attended by Messrs A. Hunter (president), J. S. Barrow, 11. Lambie, A. E. Washer, B. Booker, R. Dinm, J. Swindlehurst, E. Mills and J. Davidson. The Advisory Committee of the Union wrote stating that the Dominion levy for the ensuing twelve months had been lixed at 3s per member. SHIPPING SPACE FOR X.Z. PRODUCE. Mr Mills brought up this question, and referred to what the Premier had done in approaching the freezing companies, and said that it was regrettable that these companies had not availed themselves of the offer of the Premier that they should guarantee £SOOO towards the cost of the freight of one large vessel. He thought the matter should not vest where it was at present, but that they should make a further effort to procure space to get their produce away. Mr Hunter endorsed what Mr Mills had said, and expressed the opinion that the meat trust had a good deal to do with the present situation. Mr Mills moved: “That with regard to the question of extra shipping space the secretary write to the Dominion Advisory Committee of the Union suggesting, if it is not too late, that tho Farmers’ Union be invited to co-oper-ate re obtaining required guarantee.” WAR FUND. Mr Mills made a donation of £2O towards the fund for the relief of returned invalided troopers and local sufferers dependent on those who have igone to the front.
