The men are seeking another conference of colliery proprietors with reference to the abolition of the afternoon shift, and Mr Fisher is suggested as Chairman. Mr Rosser, president of the railway workers general labourers’ association, predicts serious trouble at Glebe Island workshops, as regards the nonunionist question. He accuses the Department of having given preference to non-unionists and foreigners, and neglecting the wages awards in order to break down the award rates. Mr Hall states that applications for wheat loans have been made to NewSouth Wales by all the other States. Victoria’s requirements were 100,000 bushels immediately on a 200,000-bush-el loan, Tasmania's being 10,000 bushels monthly. The Government is considering the requests. Melbourne, February 19. Acting on behalf of himself and other preference shareholders of the Commercial Bank of Australasia, Mr George Marshall sought a declaration and injunction to restrain the Bank fulfilling its announced intention of paying ordinary shareholders a dividend of ten per cent.- without first providing for tile restoration of lost preference capital. Judgment, with costs, was given for defendant Bank.
