SPORTING.

A point in connection with the insurance of jockeys which -may prdve of interest to owners cropped up at the Woodend meeting. Before the race the owners of Pucca and The Spec insured their respective riders, and the pair ran a dead heat. When they went to weigh-out for the run off another premium was demanded, on the ground that the risk for which they were originally insured had expired, and that the run off constituted another risk, and the jgckeys should he reinsured.. -.-..TJie. ownqys. however, decided tb accept the risk themselves, and did not second premium.

The jockey Paulgrain, who was seriously injured at the Gisborne races on Thursday, has now regained consciousness.

WOODVILLE RACING CLUB.

(Notes by Cicero.)

The autumn" meeting of the Woodville Jockey Club should he a highly successful one. and some capital racing should result. Rongora and Blacking stand out amongst a lot of moderates nominated for the Maiden Plate.

Glen Nevis may improve on Egmdnt running, and keep his opponents busy in the Hack Hurdles. A number of fair horses are engaged in the Whariti Hack. Rerehau has a great private reputation and showed winning form at Trentham, Merrie Gain 8.3, is nicely placed. On Egmont form Zetes must command respect for the Cup, though possibly Stepney will hard to bear. A large number are engaged in the County Hack. Ladogeur is a good sort, when caught in the humor, whilst Miss Kelly runs a fair six furlongs.

A poor lot have paid up for the President’s Handicap. Should Master Achilles freshen up. he may start favorite.

Prince Laddo and Midnight Star stand out prominently in the "Victoria Hack, whilst Hymettius may encounter most opposition from Golden Sky in the Telephone Handicap.
