SALVATION ARMY.

It will be recalled to mind by our many readers that last year a terrible shipping disaster occurred, when the Empress of Ireland was sunk through a collision in the St. Lawrence River. Among the many who lost their lives on that occasion were some'hundred and forty Salvationists, officers; and bandsmen who were en route tp London to participate in the great International Congress to be held in June of that year. Among the prominent officers of the Army drowned were Commissioner and Mrs Rees* at that time in charge of the Salvation Army in Canada. For some months the vacancy thus caused, remained unfilled, but at length the choice of a successor fell upon Commissioner W. J. Richards, New Zealand’s Salvation Army leader, and some!'months.ago he left our shores to assume-command of that distant terri. tory. Commissioner and Mrs Hodder, late of: Japan, were then chosen by General Bramwell Booth to succeed Commissioner Richards in New Zealand. These officers are to receive a citizens welcome in Stratford on Thursday, the 25th inst., in the local Salvation Army Hall. Brigadier Bray, Secretary for Social and Property Affairs,; will accompany the Commissioner, in addition to others. We understand that the Stratford Municipal Band will play outside the Salvation Army Hall prior to the indoor meeting. It is anticipated that all sections of church and civil life in Stratford and a crowded building will greet the visitors that night.
