A Sydney cablegram states that the solar eclipse was well observed, the features of the eclipse being a verylarge sunspot, a group of smaller spots, and a distinct view of a range of lunar mountains.
The acting-postmaster for Stratford (Mr J. Mulvey), advises as follows The mail for Auckland to-night via Onehunga per Karamea closes at the local post office fit 6 o’clock. Mails per sis. Rarawa, as usual, to-morrow night.
Quite 150 people journeyed to Ngaere Gardens yesterday on the occasion of the Stratford Municipal Band’s visit. A very pleasant day was spent amongst the flowers, listening to the Band, and playing games. It is rumored that the outing is to be repeated in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund.
Electors have shown somewhat more promptitude than usually happens in seeing that their names are included in-the list for the Municipal elections. Those electors whose names are not on the roll should bear in mind that' the roll closes at 5 p.m. to-day.

At the Auckland police court, William Charles Hutchings, aged 4.6, a clerk employed in the Sun Insurance Go., was charged that he had falsified accounts with intent to defraud. Counsel for the prosecution stated that in all probability other charges would be preferred against Hutchings, who was remanded for eight days 6n bad (one surety of £3OO and two of £l6O each). —P.A.
The Trades and Laboiir Committee lias decided to request the Arbitration Cour tat the next sitting at Wellington to proceed with the hearing of applications for new awards; also, to grant facilities for the revision of awards already in existence and the terms of which have not expired.
