THIRTEEN SMALLPOX CASES.

An epidemic of virulent smallpox is reported at Hebburn, there being thirteen cases in the township and two in the adjoining settlement. Several of Clio victims are in a bad condition. The residents did not report the outbreak, believing it to be chicken pox. -4 NEWSPAPER LIBEL ACTION.
Melbourne, February 10
The Court sanctioned the trial of the action by the Vacuum Oil Company against the Age newspaper proprietary, claiming £20,000 damages for alleged libel.
N.S.W. FINANCE.
Sydney, February 10
The Government intends to shortly float in London another two million loan on the same terms as the last. It is understood that the recently floated New South Wales two millions loan was underwritten by Noiton Griffiths and Company, and the whole amount was subsequently subscribed by the public. Mr Holman, the Premier, states that of seven million loans falling due by Ist June next, five millions have already been obtained. (Received 0.5 a.rn.)

Mr Holman has intimated that the sum of ten millions was involved in the Norton Griffiths scheme.
