NEWTON KING'S HAYMARKET REPORT. For the Haymarket sale on Saturday last pigs were penned in moderate numbers only. There was a fair attendance of buyers. The inquiry for pigs was practically confined to the larger sorts, small pigs being easier from 2s to ss. I quote: Slips and weaners 10s to 17s (id, small stores £1 Is to £1 8s Od, medium ditto £1 lis to £1 18s, good ditto £2 to £2 4s Od.
The Xew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 3rd inst:— "Merino advanced five per cent. Strong competition for America ; others, market firm."
