DOMINION WHEAT STOCKS.

! ALL IN MILLERS' HANDS. I __ ) Peh I'hess Association. Wellington, January 29. The Government Statistician lias prepared a statement showing the state ot : the wheat stocks. A census covering farmers, millers, and merchants was taken on November 18, when it was found that, exclusive of the millers, the stocks in the hands of farmers and merchants amounted to 228,717 bushels, of which 197,000 were held in lots of 1000 and over. The Govermnenet has just completed another census of those then holding the 1000 bushels and over and found that only 13,574 bushels were in their handf at the present time. 01' that amount, 4000 bushels were held under contract sale, and at least 2000 bushels represents fowl wheat. Therefore, it was correct to say that beyond the stocks held by the millers, there is no milling wheat in the Dominion to-day. If the Government had not arranged for import, there would not have been sufficient to carry on until the next harvest.

The Prime Minister has stated that the Government is taking special steps to keep in touch with the production of this harvest, so as to safeguard necessities throughout the coming vear.
