FORTUNATE AUCKLAND.
MR A. M. MYERS' CENEROSITY. Per Phksh Association. Auckland, January 28. The park which has been doi.fited to the city by Mr A M. .Myers \v;.s auspiciously opened this afternoon in delightful weather, and in the presence of a large gathering of citizens. Among those present were representatives of the State Legislature, the City Council, th« Harbour Hoard, the Board of Education, the Hospital and Charitabl" Aid Board, and various other local bodies. The proceedings were marked by sustained cordirlity and occasional enthusiasm. The park comprises about SJ acres behind the, Town Hall, which was previously a shim area. Tin's has been transform-!
ed into a park and plavground for chidren. Mr Myers donated the £9OOO necessary for the work, and, in addition, is giving funds for the erection of a fre; kindergarten and school for backward children, to cost another £4OOO.
