At a ( ,meeting of the Public Works Committee a proposal was mooted regarding the Federal Government starting cement works to supply the cement needed on public works at Canberra and other places. It was estimated that thoy would save £IOO,OOO annually. The proposed cost of the establishment was £50,000 sterling. Perth, January 29. Several..business houses are receiving letters and circulars from German agents in neutral countries, endeavouring to re-open trade negotiations. Hobart, January 29. The Assembly passed a Wheat Purchase" Bill setting apart £90,000 to obtain' wheat from New South Wales, to enable the price of bread being retained at fourpence.
