RETURNED TROOPERS IN DISCRACE. UNDER ARREST AT TRENTHAM. f Pie Pbxbi Association. I Wellington, January 29.
Three of the soldiers who were sent back from Egypt have been arrested by the military authorities for misconduct, and have been taken under guard to the Trentham camp. Although having been dismissed, these men being only civilians, they .still wore the King's uniform, and, therefore, were still under military control. Tt is alleged they became intoxicated and insulted certain officers. BELGIAN RELIEF FUND. At the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Go's, fortnightly sale on Tuesday, an oil painting was sold on behalf of the Belgian Relief Fund. It was donated by Miss I. Inness, Tututawa, and was purchased by the following and re-offered on their account at the following prices:—Mr S.. Clarke Johnson (Inspector Loan Company) IGs, Mr W. A. Hewitt (Loan Company) 10s, Mr Alf. Coplestone 10s, Hy. Collins Bs, F. J. Hopkins 10s, Geo. Coleman 10s, Hy. Collins ss.
For the same laudable purpose a calf was donated by Mr Robert McMullian, for which the following prices were secured: J. G. Buchanan £1; reoffered on his account and purchased by Mr T. R. Mounsey at £1; re-offered on Mr Mouusey's account and purchased by Mr F. W. R. Bredow at £1; re-offered on Mr Bredow's account and pin-chased by Mr J. P. Corrigan at 15s; re-offered on Mr Corrigan's account and purchased by Mr A. Spence at 16s; re-offered on Mr Spenee's account and purchased by Mr 0. McAloon at 16s; reoffered on Mr McAloon's account and purchased by Mr V. H. Nolan at 17s ; re-offered on Mr Nolan's account and purchased by Mr O. L. Franks at 16s; re-offered on MiFranks' account and purchased by Mr B. Boyle at 15s; re-offered on Mr Boyle's account and purchased by Mr J. R. Corrigan at 15s; re-offered on Mr Corrigan's account and purchased by Mr O. McAloon at 17s 6d. THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE. Wellington, January 28.
At a meeting of directors of the Bristol and Dominions Producers' Association to-day, Mr Douglas Lysnar, the chairman, reported that the Hon. H. P. Bell had informed him that the Government was not now using, and did not propose to use. any re-frigerator-fitted hoats for the purpose of transporting troops. Accepting this statement as correct, the hoard of directors considered the position extremely satisfactory, and, provided the shipping companies did not divert 'the vessels from the New Zealand I trade, the congestion of cargo should he relieved >at a comparatively early date. At the same meeting a letter was !read from the Premier, stating, with reference to the 1600 quarters of heef at present awaiting shipment at T'ntp-i that the general manager of the Xew Zealand Shipping Company had informed him that his company was unable to allot any space to non.
contractor parties. The Premier added that the Government had just concluded arrangements for the return of the insulated steamer Suffolk, which was expected to leave Egypt in a few days, and load here for Home.
EXPORT PROHIBITIONS. An Order-in-Council has been issued, prohibiting the export of all goods to destinations other than British, unless a statutory declaration has been made. Declaration has to lie made by the actual exporter or his accredited representative. Carrying and Customs agents 'are not competent' to make the declaration. Previous prohibitions remain effective. Forms of declaration can be obtained from the Customs offices. WAR REGULATIONS ACT. Wellington. January 29. A Gazette Extraordinary contains additional regulations under the War Regulations Act. No goods' shall he exported for any place other than British territory, except the French territory of Tahiti, until a statutory declaration as to their ultimate destination is made on a special form; also, the goods imported from Xorway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Switzerland, and Italy (except carbide calcuim, tar, pitch, strawboard, butter, paper, manurial salts) will not be delivered from the Customs without a certificate of origin.
