An officer says: "The public don't give the French Navy half the credit due: they hold command of the Mediterranean, not we. Their ships are often fifty to fifty-six days at sea,, perhaps thrice anchoring in a night, the climate in the Adriatic being just as bad as in the North Sea."

The Times has received a cable from the editor of the Reusskofslovoa, Moscow, as follows: "German journals are spreading an odious calumny that my newspaper is insisting that Russia should conclude a separate peace with Germany apart from the Allies. The whole press and the public opinion of the people of Russia insist that we fight to a finish until the utter destruction of Prussian militarism es- . tablishes a European reign of right and justice."
