BOWLING.
THE TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. Ideal bowling weather greeted the opening of tiie annual tournament under the auspices of the Taranaki Bowling Association -yesterday. The entries tins year were very numerous, being 18 rinks, compared to 32 last year, and it was found necessary to utilise three greens, play taking place, at New Plymouth, Fitzroy, and Inglewood. The competitors are divided into six sections, two of which occupy each green, and a daily change of venue takes place, each team playing on each green. Eleven Taranaki clubs are represented with 38 rinks, the only absentee being Patea. New Plymouth and Fitzroy have six rinks each ; Hawera, Inglewood, and Stratford, four each; Pihama, West End, and Waitara, three each; Opunake and Eltham, two each; and Manaia, one. The outside rinks number eight, and comprise: Gonville (Wanganui), three; St. John’s (Wanganui), two; and Waverley, three. There was some nue pi ay shown yesterday on all the greens.
