TOURISTS' EXPERIENCE.
VISITORS TO MT. COOK. Pee PHKMb Association. Timaru, January 24. Owing to phenomenal rain in the locality, a party of about a dozen visitors to Mt. Cook, had an unpleasant experience on the return Journey. They left the Hermitage on Friday morning, and after going about ten miles the car was stuck up by an impassable creek. One already crossed had become impassable, and they had to remain between the creeks till to-day. Fortunately a small iron hut was available. A waggon with five horses was sent from' the Hermitage with food and blankets, and managed to reach them. The party, which included Sir John Findlay, Judge Hosking, and some ladies, reached Timaru this evening about 7 o'clock. Sir John Findlay states that the party might have returned to the Hermitage in the waggon, but it was raining so heavily that they determined to stay where they were. They were not distressed. The eight ladies occupied the hut, and the men slept in the cars. None of them is any the worse for the experience, and they profess to have enjoyed it. Sir John speaks very highly of the Hermitage, but says the hostel urgently needs' enlargement, and a bridge over the Honker is another pressing need; also tennis and nro. quet lawns, and swimming baths.
