A Running Fight
FOUR GERMAN BATTLECRUISERS AND NUMBER OF DESTROYERS. FLEET MAKING FOR ENGLISH COAST. [By Eleotbio Telegraph—Oofybightl United Press Association. (Received 12.25 p.m.) London, January 24. Rear-Admiral Beatty's Squadron sighted four German battlecruisers and a number of <le stroyers making- for England. The Germans fled, and a running fight ensued, in which the Blucher was sunk, and two bat-tle-cruisers seriously damaged. There were no British losses.
Admiral Beatty, according to Nelson's 1914 Year Book, is in charge of the First Cruiser Squadron on the flagship Lion, 26,350 tons with oight 13.5-inch guns. The Blucher was a 23-knot cruiser, of about 15,000 tons, mounting 6-in. and guns, and attached to the 2nd Baltic Squadron of the Baltic Fleet, commanded by Admiral von Corper. >
