Time, Imin 1.6 2-5 :ec. » After the Wellington Stakes had been run, the stewards hold an inquiry into the riding of, C. Emerson on Sutala. In his evidence, Emerson admitted pulling Sutala up in order ■-.o get a better position next the rails. The stewards considered that ho acted lu a careless manner, though with no wrong intention. They expressed the opinion that Sutala was pulled up too sharply, and was the cause of Bimeter coming to giiel. Emerson was disqualified till March 31st for careless riding.

FOXTON RACES'. Foxton, January 22. The sum of £14,674 was passed through the totalisator, as compared, with £14,546 on the same day last /'oar. Wioletta dropped dead after nulling up in the Dash Handicap. L. Nodder, rider of Chaminade, was fined £5, and severely cautioned, for interference with Sweet Van during the running of the Cup. Additional remits : Trial Stakes, five furlongs.—lmprove 1, Namur 2, Atuhire, 3. Won all the way. Time, Imin 3 2-ssec. Awahou Hack Welter, one mile and 100 yards.—Sir Donald 1, Midnight star 2, Te Hou Hon 3. Sir Donald won easily over the last three furlongs from Midnight Star, who put in a fast finishing run. Time, Imin 49 3-ssec. Flying Handicap, six furlongs.— Orleans 1, Crawford 2, Lady Moutoa '. Also started: Black Lupin. Craw,ord led to within a few yards of the post. Orleans won by half a length.
