THE N.S.W. RAILWAYS. CDnIXHD PhEBB ASSOCIATION.] Sydney, January 21. As a result of the late drought and the war, there has been a serious decrease in railway earnings. To meet this the timetables are being revised and services reduced, a million train miles will be saved annually. Many temporary hands are being put off, and probably the whole of the remainder will go. The office branch contributed 237 to the Expeditionary Forces, and other branches considerable numbers. Their places have not been filled.
PRiCE-OF-BEER STRIKE.
Sydney, January 21. Since the early part of the month ten towns 'on the Maitland coalfields have gone on strike against the increased price of beer, and a boycott is maintained, with extensive picketing. Temperance advocates are successfully campaigning, and have induced over 300 to sign a six months' pledge. The thermometer is 100 degrees, and the soft-drink sellers arc coining money.
