A FATAL LOVE.
MAN AND WOMAN SHOT. Residents in the vicinity of 239 Grant Street, South Melbourne, were, shortly after midday on Monday of last week, startled by three revolver shots in rapid succession, and a piercing scream. Constables Lock. yer and Morse hurried to the house, and found the tenant, Mrs Isabella Lawson (46), bleeding from a wound in the chest. A little distance away was John Ross Allen (45), lying on his hack, with blood flowing from his mouth, a revolver containing six cartridges, three of which had been discharged, lying at his side. The man and the woman were removed to the Homeopathic Hospital, where Allen died some hours after admission. Mrs Lawson, who is progressing favorably, has given the following particulars of the shooting:—"lt was jealousy that made him do it. The argument we had was about marriage. He wanted me to marry him, and I would not. He followed me about everywhere. He said to me on day,. 'I only want one woman, and tKat is you.' " Allan was 36 years of age, and had lodged with Lawson for Tl years; hut it was not until after the death of Mr Lawson that he began to display deep love for his landlady.
