M. Walker Ponsonby) 10 v. Stoke.(Grey Lynn) 8. This game opened promisingly, with both men drawing beautifully. The game was 3 all at the fifth head, and s—l in Stokes' favor at the seventh head. Walter then got a run of 1, 2~ 2,1, and led 10— r > at the 11th head. Two singles to Stokes reduced the margin, but Walker ivoftt off again with 2,2, 1, and [ed ]»— 7 at the 16th head. A single eacii was gained, and the game given up at the conclusion of the 18th head. Maxwell Walker thus became the second Dominion champion, the first (Kilgour, another Aucklander) having been defeated in section play. Walker has for years been looked up T on as one of the strongest players in New Zealand. He has played into prominent positions at most of the important tournaments in recent years. Stokes, the ''runner-up." surprised most Aucklanders. Ho took part in the tournament as a substitute member of the Grey Lynn Club. The contest for third place resulted: J. B. Osmond (Auckland), 20 v. E. J. Hill (Tehiwi) 14.
