A correspondent describing the 'Austrian retreat at Valieve, says that ,three thousand wounded were left in charge of thirteen doctors and the ambulance staff. The men were lying anywhere in great suffering, and dying 'amidst appalling filth. The Austrian soldier, in the eyes of his superiors, ceases to he worthy of consideration the moment he is put out of action: he is just cannon fodder.
BERCHTOLD AND THE EMPEROR A STORMY INTERVIEW. (Received 9.5 a.m.) Rome, January 19. Count Berchtold, who always held anti-Servian views, resigned after a stormy interview with the Emperor, who reproached him for withholding a report of the consequences o)f the ultimatum sent to Servia and for declaring that Russia would not intervene.
