HOME DEFENCE CORPS.

MONDAY NIGHT’S PARADE. The Stratford Home Defence Corps paraded last night at the school grounds, when Lieutenant Gray put the men through musketry drill. At the close of the drill, the OfficerCommanding (Captain J. W. McMillan) said that he had a very pleasant duty to perform. This was to present to Lieutenant Gray, on behalf of the corps, a silver-topped flask suitably inscribed, as a token of the esteem in which that officer was hold. Captain McMillan said that during the twelve ’venrs in Stratford he hid never seen an officer so well qualified as an in. tructor. He always appeared to get the best out of the Cadets and Territorials without much trouble to himself or the lads under his command. Lieutenant Gray suitably responded. The next business was the appointment of officer-commanding, and Captain McMillan was unanimously reelected.

It was decided by the Corps that the officer commanding should appoint the N.C.O.’s, and Captain McMillan named the following: ColorSergeant T, Richardson, Sergeants Christopher and H. H. (lollop, and Corporals W*. S. Cato and T. Jones. The Corps has been considering the question of erecting a minature rifle range, and Captain McMillan said that tho committee was considering the advisability of holding a concert to raise funds for this purpose. At a committee meeting, held after the parade, it was decided to hold the concert on Monday, 22ml February. Mr C. D. Sole referred to the lack of ammunition, and said it was proving a handicap to members of the Corps who wished to compete at rifle metings.
