SPORTING.

THE WELLINGTON MEETING. (Notes by Cicero.) The Wellington Racing Club received good acceptances for their summer meeting, which opens tomorrow. Of the seven acceptors, for the Treutham Welter, Roumania and Jem should divide favouritism. Possibly Nones will carry most bullion in the Nursery Handicap, but Happiness must command respect. Many look on the Anniversary Handicap as at the mercy of Crown Pearl, but the writer does not agree with this. Honesty showed splendid form during the holidays, and will only have to produce such to pay a dividend.

A very largo number figure in the Trial Plate. Banksia has a private reputation, whilst Croesus and Ararat have public form to recommend them.

The field in the Cup will not be as large as in former years, but nevertheless a number of good handicap horses are engaged. Indigo (who is remarkably well handicapped), Ladoga (who ran a couple of great twelve fuHong races last season), and Pavlova (who is at her very best just now) should provide a capital contest. Fourteen are engaged in the Ruapehu Hack. Miraculous, Gold Soult, and Submersion are fast over a short Cfiurse. Half a dozen made the final payment for the Waterloo Stakes, but the possibilities are that no more than four will face the starter. This is most disappointing when one considers the value of the race (£500), If Merry Roe strips at her best, she will touch a verv short price.

A barge crowd of brilliant sprinters will li"e up for the Telegraph Handicap. Downliarn (who >’s very brilliant) and Bimeter should receive most support.
