AT THE SUEZ CANAL. United Press (Association. Loudon. January 18. The Times’ military correspondent says that if the seventy thousand Turks reported to he missing in Syria cross the desert they will meet a warm reception. The navy can also take a leading share not only in the Suez Canal but in operating off Elarishakhah. We ought to have all the trumps in our hands in playing this rubber, but we must not forget that the Tilrks fight with courage. They are a military people with great traditions, and must not be despised. "TO CERTAIN DEATH.” Cairo, January 18.
The Press Bureau has issued a communique based on statements made by refugees. It describes the army invading Egypt as likely to display bravery but incapacity. Many are starving owing to bad organisation rather than lack of supplies. There are insufficient horses and camels, yet many of the camels are dying. The troops are ill-clothed in summer khaki.
German officers reported to Berlin that they were unable to’ advise an attack on Egypt with such troops, and suggested a postponement. Germany however, ordered them to march through. One officer describes them as marching to certain death. Refugees state that the feeling between Turkish and German officers is bad. The latter fear that if they do not succeed in crossing the Canal the Turks will attack them. ENVER PASHA’S TASK. Constantinople, January 18. Enver Pasha has returned, allegedly to suppress a conspiracy against the Young Turk party.

Official: British forces assisting the Sultan of Muscat repelled a rising, and inflicted 500 casualties. Muscat, on the Gulf of Omau, Arabia, is the capital of the old kingdom of Omau, and the chief centre of Arabian trade. It is one of the hottest places in the world. The population is estimated to be over 40,000.
