MAWSON’S DEFENCE OF WILKES Unit*" Phem Association. Washington, January 16. Sir Douglas Mawson, speaking at the National Georgraphical Society, defended the achievements of Rear Admiral Wilkes, the Antarctic explorer of 1810, who was court-mar. tialled on allegations preferred by his fellow explorers. Sir Douglas Mawson assertd that with few exceptions Admiral Wilkes had correctly mapped the Antarctic coastline. The mistakes he made were due to mirages.
