THE TE HORO FATALITY. Per Press (Association. Wellington, January 13. An inquest was held to-doy at Te Horo on the body of Herbert Hodge, who was drowned on Monday evening while dshing off the beach. Deceased had evidently been seized by a shark, as one arm was almost bitten through and the body was disfigured. A verdict of "accidentally drowned" was returned. PARNELL FIRE BRIGADE'S MOTOR ON THE SKID. ' Auckland, January 13. When answering a call to Parnell today, the Fire Brigade's latest motor tender skidded on the wet surface of the Grafton bridge, and commenced » wild career, during which it bumped both the right and left hand balustrades and hurled several firemen from their seats. The accident was caused by the rain, the bridge surface being as slippery as glass. When the motor was checked it stood at right angles to the bridge roadway. One fireman lay unconscious near the kerbing, but most of the others had regained their feet. Foreman Warner received an ugly scalp wound; Fireman McDonald, bruises and shock ; and Fireman Mackay was rendered unconscious try a Mow on the head. The extent of the damago to the motor is not yet known.
