PETER DAWSON. hi the Town Hall on January 19th, In the Town Hall on Tuesday, January 19th, Mr Peter Dawson, the worldTanious baritone, will give a concert, assisted by his brilliant English concert party* Everyone should take the great opportunity of hearing this gifted singer in the flesh. Peter Dawson is known all over the world through the medium of his gramaphone records. He is one of the finest baritone singers who has toured New Zealand. The crisp staccato and wonderful breath control are points that give real distinction to Mr Dawson's renderings, a.iid he possesses a charming personality, a quick and intelligent perception, and a beautiful rich and resonant voice of extraordinary range/ Mr Dawson's concert numbers should be looked forward to by all music-lovers. Box plan on view at Mr T. G. Grubb's. BELGIAN RELIEF FUND. SALVATION ARMY BOYS GIVE DEMONSTRATION. The Town Hal) was crowded last night on the occasion of the demonstration by the boys of the Salvation Army Eltham Home. Mr J. B. Hino presided over the gathering, and in the course of a few introductory remarks referred to the good opinions reaped by the boys wherever they !iad appeared, and to the worthiness of the'cause for which they were working, namely, the relief of Belgian children.
The boys, under the management of Adjutant A. Seotney, went through a long and enjoyable programme in a manner to please the most fastidious • taste. The drill items were particularly good, reflecting great credit on the instructor. Captain Thomas, and were heartily applauded. The boys all kept excellent time, and were quick in their actions'. • The drills demonstrated were dumb-bell, Swedish, Indian club, Indian stick, running maze, and tableaux. The Swedish and tableau drills were very interesting, and were carried out in excellent style. A very popular item was the tableau "Red Cross Brigade on Active Service."
The musical itejms were greatly appreciated, and the chorus of the song of the evening, "Help the Belgian Children" (written by Adjutant Scot, ney) was sung by th*e gathering. "If Men were Boys," "My, Didn't it Rain," "These Two Little Eyes," and "Ten Little Juniors" were items which greatly amused the audience. F. James sang "Down in the Slums," assisted by the company, for which lie received hearty applause. The company also sang "A Song of Groetling," "Going to be a Party," and "Good-night." Recitations were given by A. Cook ("Tending the Baby"), H. Cook ("Bring the Men up to the Colors"), and A. McAskili ("The Guardian Angei"). '
