The election writs will be issued on March Bth, the polling day being March 28th. DISTRESS IN PORT ADELAIDE. (Received 9.10 a.m.) Adelaide, January 14. A deputation of unemployed which appealed to the Government for work stated that distress was acute in Port Adelaide, 3000 being idle. Relief was promised. PRICE OF BREAD IN ADELAIDE. (Received 9.10 a.m.) Adelaide, January 14.
The Bakers'. Association has raised the price of the loaf, delivered, from 4d to 4Jd. They claim they are justified i» consequence of the world-wide demand for wheat, and the wheat standard being fixed at 611bs, compared to 601bs last year.
FIRE ON MELBOURNE WHARF. Melbourne, January 13. A fire occurred ia a wharf shed containing cargo ex Warrimoo and severely damaged a considerable quantity of hemp consigned to the Kinnear Co. The cause is unknown. DROP IN N.S.W. RAILWAY REVENUE. (Rceived 10 a.m.) Sydney, January 14. Owing to the drought and the war, there has been a heavy falling off in the New South Wales railway levenue. It is stated that for the week ending January 2nd the shortage was £20,000, compared with 1913. Reductions which are being made affect practically the whole State. There are no indications of improvement in the position. It is stated that the Govern ment hopes to maintain the staffs in employment, but there that tight times will make it necessary to work short time. | J. YEAR'S COLD OUTPUT IN N.S.W. One bullock sold for £25 ss, a Queensland record.
