Mr R. J. Fames, who is well-known in newspaper circles in Taranaki, has been appointed managing editor of the Northern Advocate, published at Whangarei.

The Rev. Neville Barnett, at present curate of St. Paul’s, Wellington, has been appointed Vicar of Patea.

Mr E. F. Duthie, of Dunedin, secured a majori Ly of votes at the meeting of the Employers’ Federation, held on Thursday, but it is understood that Mr S I. Clarke, of Auckland, will be nominated for the position of employers’ representative on the Arbitration Court.

Mr M. Bevan-Browp, of Wanganui, and Jack Murrell, the guide, majJe the first ascent of the second highest peak in the Cathedral range at Manapouri on Thursday, climbing by direct route up the southern face.

The local Mail says the Hon. James Borthwick was a visitor to Waitara on Wednesday and Thursday. He was greatly struck with the progress of the town, and very pleased with the way the recent additions to the Freezing Works had been carried out.

A very pretty wedding was celebrated in tire Kohuratahi Hall on Tuesday last (writes our correspondent), and in spite of the iucehnent weather, about forty guests sat down to the wedding breakfast. The bride, Miss Jean Bennett, looked charming in a white meurve silk tunic of overall

lace; she also wore a - veil and. orange blossoms and carried a shower bouquet. The bridesmaid was bewitching in a blue crepe de chene kilted tunic with a white mop cap trimmed with pink rose buds. The bride’s mother was dressed in black silk. The groom, Mr T. Trask, was accompanied by the best man, Mr G. Trask. On the arrival of the bride in a motor car the ceremony was, performed, after which the bride cut the cake, and the usual toasts and good wishes were proposed. The happy couple left by motor car, amid showers of rice and good wishes, en route for Palmerston, Wellington and Napier. In the evening a dance was held in the hall at which about 80 friends attended. It is interesting to note that this is the first wedding celebrated in the Hall since it was built.
