THE POSITION SUMMED UP. TIMM AND BYDNIY Suw SuBVIOM. London, January 7. The Times' military correspondent calculates that the Austro-Germans in the east lost a third of their effective strength, and accomplished nothing except the postponement of the Russian advance. They have not broken any Russian army, and are not so far advanced as at the end of October. The correspondent emphasises the demoralisation of the Austrians, and continues: "Italy, has now a substantial army ready for emergencies, anfl Austria is not in a position to hector Italy, or to prevent her realising her ambitions, which will be cordially supported by the Entente." NO HUNGARIAN DISAFFECTION. London, January 7. The Times' Hungarian correspondent declares that there is no dissaffection, and that Hungary does not desire British sympathy. There is a universal keenness for war, ami sincere loyalty in Austria.
CAPTURE OF EX-TURKISH MINISTER OF WAR. (Received 8.20 a.m.) Petrograd, January 7. The Gazette (states that the Russians captured Izzet Pasha, a former Turkish Minister of war. INDEPENDENCE OF HUNQARY. RUSSIAN DESIGNS ON TRANSYLVANIA. ' (Received 8.20 a.m.) London, January 7. The Daily Chronicle's Milan correspondent reports that the Russians are preparing to burst into Transylvania. Budapest is, in a state of consternation, and politicians are straining every nerve to prevent Hungary becoming an independent state.
