Mr Holman (Premier), in a special New Year’s message to the Daily Chronicle, stated that thousands were drilling in readiness for war. Australia understands the nature of the contest. She will give unanimous support to the Mother Country and her Allies, and is prepared to go through the struggle. DEATH of a NEW ZEALANDER. (Received 9.50 a.m.) Sydney, January 5. ft is officially reported that Private Sydney Foster Chamberlain, a New Zealander with the Expeditionary Force, died from pneumonia in Egypt.
THE BROKEN HILL AFFRAY. NO ALIEN ENEMIES TO BE EMPLOYED IN MINES. (Received 9.50 a.m.) Sydney, January 5. The management of the Broken Hill central mine has notified that in view of the war crisis and the feeling engendered by Friday’s shooting, alien enemies will not be further employed in the mine.
The bodies of Gool and Abdulla were buried by the police privately, the Mohammedans objecting to the interment in their section of the graveyard. i
