The death of the Rev. Woolnough, formerly President of the Australian Methodist Conference, is announced from Sydney.

Miss M. E. Allman Marchant, M.A., headmisteress of St. Mary’s School, arrived in Stratford by express ,and is the guest of the Vicar, the Rev. C. W. HoAvard.

Mr A. C. Lennard, Avho for over 30 years Avas in the grocery business at Wanganui, was found dead in Led this morning, states the Press Association.

M. Viviani (the French Premier), and M. Broqueville (Minister for Defence) have been created honorary members of the most distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George.

At St. Mary’s Church, New Plymouth, yesterday, Miss Gladys- Roy, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. B. Roy, was married to Mr G. S. Millar, third son of Mr ’ Robert Millar, The Bushes, Paisley, Scotland. The ceremony was performed by the Vicar, the Rev. A. H. Colvile.

Mr H. E. Moston, Acting-Inspector in charge of the Labor Department, has been appointed Inspector-in-Charge,. Wellington. Mr G. H. Lightfoot, Acting-Inspector in Charge, to Inspector-in-Charge, Invercargill; Mr H. L. B. Bower ; Acting-Officer in charge, to Officer-in-Charge, Christchurch.

The Hon. W, Fraser (Minister for Public Works), who has been on a brief visit to Wanganui and who le f t by the midday train for Wellington, was waited on to-day by a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, requesting the construction of a bridge over the Wanganui river at Ahu Aim, about thirty-five miles from the town. The Minister promised to give consideration to the matter.—P.A.

Captain Watts, of Nelson, whose death is recorded in the war news today, was a member of a well-known New Zealand family, being one of many who pursued his military studies at Nelson College. He gained a commission in the Imperial Army from the College Cadets in 1905. Deceased held the rank of captain in the 2nd battalion North Hamptonshire Regiment (Old 58th).
