FRENCH SUBMARINE’S ESCAPE
IN THE ENEMY’S WATERS.
(Received 9.35 a.m.) Paris, December 28,
A sailor on a French submarine relates: “We entered an enemy port on an unnamed Sunday, and were about to torpedo the battleships when our rudder caught on the steel cables and the submarine was drawn up nearly to the surface. The torpedoers’ shells rained on us, and it was a miracle we wore not struck. Suddenly the cable yielded, and we dived for sixteen mot res and escaped, having been submerged for twelve hours.”
