A Budapest correspondent points out that 137 members of Parliament and 7000 societies are working for the independence movement. The people are depressed, and sceptical of the so-called Austrian victories. They are distinctly friendly to England. Vienna, December 24.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Austrians, defeated in Servia, has been removed from his post. Archduke Eugen succeeds him. London, December 25.
General von Hoetzcndorf, chief of the Austrian general staff, declares that there has been no decisive result in the war on the eastern front. He denied that Austria was taking special military measures against Italy, but admitted that it was necessary to make preparation to defend all the frontiers. Vienna, December 25.
