THE SCARBOROUGH INQUEST.

At the inquest on the Scarborough victims, the jury wished to return a verdict of wilful murder, but the Coroner pointed out that such a verdict would necessitate the’ prosecution of the commanders of the warships, which was impossible.

The Mayor of Scarborough, in acknowledging Mr Churchill’s sympathy, remarks: “As the German naval commanders get older they will find the Iron Cross pinned to their breast by King Herod, but it will not shield them from the shafts of shame and dishonour.”

Mr Bonar Law, speaking at Bootle; in Lancashire, said : t was difficult to realise that a large Gonnan licet could approach England and go hack untouched. The raid on t'he east coast was part of a long-planned scheme.”
