NGAERE SCHOOL CONCERT.
On Friday evening a most successful concert was Jield at Ngaere In aid of the School Committee's funds. The stage was prettily decorated with greenery, flowers, and flags, and the hall was crowded. The first hah consisted of children's items, nearly all being part of the ordinary school work. The following was the programme:—Piano duet, Misses Dorothy Walker and Vera O'Neill; song, "T;ie Fisherman and His Family," Junioi Children; dancing steps, Senior Boys; song, "When Tired with Our Lessons," Infants; song, ''The in Navy Blue," Senior Girls; marbh and chorus of the Wooden Soldiers. Junior Children; dancing steps. Senior Girls; song, "It's a Long "Way to Tipperary," Senior Boys; dialogue, "Little Miss Muffet," and other characters, Misses Florence Walker and Maudie Greig, Masters Leslie \ic. Beth and Ronald Greig; Garland Drill, Senior Girls'; song, "the Marseillaise," School Children. The children's items were greatly enjoyed by the audience, and encores were frequent. The second half was given by friends from Eltham and Hawera, the vocal quartettes by members of the Hawera Liedertafel being highly appreciated. , The items were: Quartette, "Pussy's in the Well," Messrs Jones, Grace, Black and James—encore, "Lead Kindly Light"; song, "Jessie's Dream," Mrs Ching; song, "The King's Own," Mr McAlpineencore, "Kings of the Road"; recitation. "Gunga Din;" Mr E. Parrott —encore "Tommy Atkins"; song, "Happy Song," Miss Nielsen; qnartette, "The Tack," Messrs Jones, Grace, James and Black—encore, 'Serenade; song, "The Longshoreman,"- Mr Mclsaac—encore, "The Little Irish Girl"; comic song, "An Awful Little Scrub," Rev. G. W. Dentencore, "Tipperary"; quartette, "Sweet and Low," Mrs Grace, Miss Nielsen, Messrs Grace and Jones.. Mr X. Jones, chairman of the School Committee, presented prizes and certificates won by the pupils. Prizes given by the local branch ol the W.C.T.U. for essays on Temperance were gained by: Standard 111., Elsie Kirkby 1; Joyce Harrison, 2. Standard IV, Gertie Bowers, 1; Marjorie Truelove, 2. Standard V., Ivor Saunders, 1; Roy Walker, 2. Standard VI., Vera O'Neill, 1; Dorothy I Walker, 2. First-class attendance certificates were gained by Meriton Taylor, Mande Greig, Ivy Kenyon, May Penniall. Second-class attendance certificates, Ivor Saunders, Roy Walker. Fielder Fugle, Osmond Coleman,' George Greig. In Standard VII six pupils sat for examination, and six were successful. Proficiency: Osmond Coleman, lan McKenzie, William Orr, Roy Penniall, Vera O'Neill. Competency: Dorothy Walker. Cheers jrere given for the teachers and the Committee. All joined in singing the National Anthem, and alter supper, which was kindly provided by the ladies, dancing was kept up for two or three hours, Mr A. Kenny acting as M.C., and music being supplied by the Ngaere Orchestra, Messrs.S. Parker and Walsh Bros. Extras were .played by Miss Keppel and Mr G. Coleman. The net profit for the School Committee was about £l4.
