BABLY DISAPPEAR.

London, December 26
A correspondent in South Germany states: “Liege and Namur have been rebuilt and strongly fortified. The important road crossings, railways, and most important buildings in Brussels have been mined, and the authorities only need to press a button to convert them into a heap of ruins. In the south, the Germans are not enthusiastic over the war, but realise they must stick together. The popularity of the Kaiser has lessened. When they recognise the hopelessness of the case the Southern States will be the first to cry for peace. After war the prestige of Prussia will suffer heavily and will probably disappear.” The correspondent is firmly convinced that the German people will fight to a finish, and when finally forced to surrender it won’t be for the want of soldiers, food, or money. The greatest danger lies in ammunition, they being very short of saltpetre.
