CORDIAL FACTORY BURNED.

Per Press Association,

Napier, December 14. Plowman’s cordial factory at the 'orner of Shakespeare and Battery loads was totally destroyed by fire ;his morning. The outbreak started : n the cellar and had a good hold of die main building when discovered. The water pressure was not as good as ; t might have been, and the brigade was unable to do more than confine the fire to the factory. The loss is a heavy one. The building was insured : n the Norwich Union for £I9OO, and he plant and stock in the same office for £6IOO. The insurances do not nearly cover the loss, the stock being /allied at £I3OO.

MAN BURNED TO DEATH IN OUTHOUSE.

Taihape, December 14

A four-roomed outhouse at the rear if Capill’s boardinghouse was destroy'd by fire yesterday at 1.30 a.m. There was uo hope of saving the building, md inspection later found the remains if John Williams, a Cingalese, who was a recent arrival from Hawke’s Bay. It was not known when the fire was discovered that the building had any occupant.

BOARDINGHOUSE ABLAZE.

Auckland, December 14

A fire in Hobson Street at 1 o’clock this morning gutted seven rooms of a large boardinghouse owned by C. F. Bennett and occupied by Mrs M. Marshall. Mrs Marshall and two chilIren who slept on the ground floor vere awakened by smoke, and Mrs Marshall took the children in her arms md jumped from the window, a distance of six feet, to the ground. Ten loarders who were sleeping on the premises had narrow escapes. One lumped from the roof of a lean-to, a listance of 20 feet. An old man was assisted from a room while the passage was ablaze.
