Doctor Hadden, ethnologist of the University of Cambridge, has returned from a visit to Papua, spent mostly in cannibal country. He strongly urges the immediate appointment of an ethnologist in Papua, because the natives are changing rapidly and it will soon be too late to perform highly important ethnological work that is performable now. This is more important to science than Antarctic research. He discovered the cult of the skull, houses containing shelves ot skulls of people killed in war were grotesquely decorated. Sydney, December 9. Walter Browning, an accountant, was charged with forgery. The police gave evidence that defendant’s forgeries covered a period of three years, and totalled £3647. Accused was remanded, bail being,, fixed at £3OOO.
