The case in which William (“Captain”) McLeod, the Wild West showman, is charged with causing Leslie Wilson actual bodily harm came before the Hamilton Supreme Court yesterday. The case was that in which McLeod, while practising sharpshooting, essayed, with Wilson’s permission to remove the ash from a cigarette which Wilson was smoking. The bullet entered Wilson’s cheek. The jury found that Wilson moved his head when the shot was fired. Judge Cooper then heard legal argument as to whether the admitted facts constituted an offence under the law. Finally, in reserving his decision, His Honor said the case was most interesting. It was the first time in'the history of English law that the Supreme Court had been called upon to decide such a case. He would have to consult his brother judges. McLeod was admitted to bail in his own recognisances of £‘so.
