WELLINGTON WOOL SALES. Per Press Association. Wellington, Novomber 13. In view of the excellent pr,ice* realised last week at the first *<9v\ Zealand wool sales held in Chrisiehurch, it was expected to-day's spoiling sale in Wellington would provide activo competition, and prices favor sellers. This anticipation was fully borne out, price,* realised running from one penny to three halfpence above opening sale rates last 'year. Nearly 12,000 bales were submitted, and there was a large assemblage of buyers, but although buyers for France and Belgium were nob barred, those who made bidding today were practically all Bradford representatives, plus New Zealand mills.
The top price in the sale was secured by Levin and Co. for a line of six bales of Southdowns from Mr Jas. Knight, Feilding, which brought Hid per pound. The same firm also obtained 13Jd per pound for a. line of Wairarapa crossbreds from Otatinao station, and this is believed to be the top price for this description of wool. The sale was, conducted subject to the New Zealand competition regulations prohibiting sales to persons representing enemy countries. The prices realised to-day really represent those expected to be realised at next January sales in London, inasmuch as the woo] will arrive Home about that time, and buyers are not likely to pay a higher price now than they are likely to be able to buy at then. The wool came from Marlborough as well as from the Wairarapa and other Wellington districts. It was generally woll grown but carried a fair amount of grease, due to the very dry weather of late.
