A caucus assembles to-day to decide the question -of the introduction of the totalisator. It is believed feeling favors the movement. A Sydney cablegram to-day states that the racehorse Tartan dropped •lead.
The Taranaki Jockey Club's meeting which is to be field on Saturday, tho 26th December and Monday, December 28th, provides a good programme of eight races each day. The meeting is a popular Taranaki Christmas fixture and should attract largo entries. Nominations close to-morrow (Friday) for all handicap events at 9 p.m. with the secretary, Mr E. P. Webster, P.O. box 33, New Plymouth. There is not nuch between Reputation and Fir.it Flight, writes a southern writer who witnessed the race for the Gold Cup, and reported that the latter lost a couple of lengths at the start. The latter , did not get such a good run a< tho Mack colt, and with only a short neck between them at the finish it showed tha if the spoils went to tho winner a good deal of honor lay with the other.-
