The Department of Marine states that no a< fcion lias yet been taken with regard to the naval question in Canada, despite contrary statements appearing in the London press. It is understood that' Cabinet is considering . tko matter, and there is a likelihood of 'its formulating a scheme tor the next Parliamentary session, it ig not known t whether'the New Zealand Premier's I suggestion that Canada, Australia, and • New Zealand form a Pacific unit • will be favored, but it is' understood [that Cabinet has already considered the idea. Since the Euideit battle practically the entire Press of Canada is demanding-that Canada shall adopt [some naval defence policy, and Liberal papers are admitting the necessity.
The announcement that Britain is raising another million men has led the Militia Department to state that they hape that if the war is still continuing next November Canada will be maintaining 150,000 men in the field. Canada is arranging not merely to send contingents, but to keep up a fixed supply of reinforcements for the entire duration of the war.
